KHALSA DIWAN MALAYSIA CELEBRATES THE
400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST PARKASH OF SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI.
Khalsa Diwan Malaysia celebrated the 400th. Anniversary of the First Perkash Divas – Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji on a Perak State Level.
Various projects were lined up which include:
- Distribution of free Nitnem Gutkas to pupils attending Punjabi classes run by the various Punjabi Education Centres under the Punjabi Education Trust Malaysia which is a wing of the Khalsa Diwan Malaysia.
- Distribution of free CDs on Gurbani and Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji – in co-operation with Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia
- Launching an anti-liquor campaign.
Posters and flyers depicting our campaign have been sent to every Gurdwara in Malaysia.
The objective of this campaign is to appeal to every Malaysian Sikh to move towards ZERO-INTOXICANTS by NOT SERVING liquor at our wedding functions. It has become a norm to serve and consume large amounts of liquor at every function, be it a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary, or even a normal get-together of friends and relatives. We have seen families run into heavy debt because their bill on liquor far exceed their budget. To keep up with tradition ( as it is fast becoming one ), they have spent more money on this than the jewellery or clothing they give to their beloved daughters or sons.
We have to see to it that the younger generation does not misunderstand and think that serving liquor is a part of our tradition/culture.
