Punjabi Education Centre Bayan Baru Report from Manager Bibi Ajinder Kaur – 2015.

1. Establishment of Punjabi Education Centre Bayan Baru
Gurdwara Sahib Bayan Baru received the letter of approval from the President of Khalsa Diwan Malaysia on 2nd December 2014 to establish the new centre ie Punjabi Education Centre Bayan Baru. (PEC Bayan Baru).

The committee wish to thank the Regional Representative Sdr Dato’ Dr Manjit Singh for the support rendered in the establishment of the new centre (which formerly operated as a branch of Khalsa Dharmik School Penang). The centre operates in Gurdwara Sahib Bayan Baru premises.
10th January 2015 – Official Launch of PEC Bayan Baru

PEC Bayan Baru held the official launching ceremony of the new centre at Gurdwara Sahib Bayan Baru . Yg. Bhg. Dato’ Dr Anbalakan Kailasam represented the Penang State Government and Sdr. Dato’ Dr Manjit Singh represented the Punjabi Education Trust Malaysia at the launching. (see photos of the launching below).

Classes are conducted on every Saturday from 2.30pm to 6.30pm. The students sat for the 1st Semester examinations in May 2015. New facilities for teaching and learning are also under construction at the new Gurdwara building.

2. Teachers Training

On 21st March 2015 the Punjabi teachers attended a Seminar organized by Khalsa Diwan Malaysia / Punjabi Education Trust Malaysia which was conducted at the Guru Nanak Institution, Ipoh. The seminar was held to brief the teachers on the usage of the new books and syllabus as well as lesson plan planning. The teachers benefited from attending this training.

3. Student Participation in Northern Region/ National Bhasha Mela. 2015

The Northern Region Bhasha Mela. 2015 was held on 28th March 2015 in Penang.

Seventeen children from the PEC Bayan Baru participated in the Northern Region Bhasha Mela. which saw 4 teams comprising of PEC Bayan Baru, Khalsa Dharmik School, Penang, PEC Butterworth and PEC Sungai Petani. The children participated in various activities ranging from Gurbani Paath, Kavta, Quiz, Spelling, Speech, Story-telling, News reading as well as Debate.

The children were very excited and performed well in most of the activities. The children from PEC Bayan Baru obtained 1st Placing in 3 out of 4 categories in Gurbani Paath. Our children’s team obtained 2nd placing for the spelling event and 3rd placing for the quiz. The level four students also achieved 1st and 2nd placing in Kavta and Bhashan (Speech).

Some of the students also went on to participate in the National Level Bhasha Mela held in Kuala Lumpur in June 2015.

4. Student Participation in Gurdwara weekly satsangs.

The children are also actively involved in the kirtan and sewa for the weekly Gurdwara programs.
